Choosing a Mesh Chair
In summer, a Mesh Chair helps keep users cool and comfortable by keeping air flowing well around the body. In contrast, fabric, leather, and vinyl chairs absorb and trap heat which can be uncomfortable. Mesh chairs are also lighter and take up less space than most traditional office chairs which can make them ideal for smaller work spaces or for individuals who prefer a more minimal look.
When choosing a Mesh Chair, there are several factors to consider including how long the chair will be used per day and how often it will be sat in, what is the average temperature of the room where the chair will be sat in and how much support is required for the back, neck, and legs? A good starting point is to choose a Mesh Chair with an ergonomically shaped seat back that fits the natural curves of the spine. This can help prevent back strain from poor posture and encourage healthy spinal alignment.
Mesh seats are typically made from mesh stretched over the chair frame and padded with foam for a more comfortable seating experience. However, since they don't have the same structural integrity as traditional padded chairs the mesh can cause discomfort if the user leans forward. This can be due to the front of the chair seat frame cutting off circulation or from a lack of padding that causes pressure on the butt and back. Some chair models alleviate this issue by having a waterfall seat design that reduces this pressure and allows the back and shoulders to rest against the frame.
A Mesh Chair should be cleaned regularly because it is a breathable material that can allow dust particles to easily cling to the surface. This can make the chair dusty faster than other types of office chairs which are typically upholstered in fabrics that can resist dust and dirt accumulation. Regular vacuuming of the seat is recommended along with avoiding eating in the chair where food crumbs can fall underneath the mesh and be difficult to remove.
While a Mesh Chair is great for offices, it is not suitable for industrial, manufacturing and warehousing environments because the mesh can become a tangled net that can trap small materials such as metal shavings, sawdust and chunks of plastic. It can also pose a safety risk when objects are able to slip through the gaps in the mesh and can be lodged inside the user's back or butt, or in their legs. This could lead to injury if the object is pulled on by a user, especially when the chair is reclined or tilted. In addition, the lack of design and color options with this type of chair makes it not as attractive in some workplace settings.
